1. Get familiar with the assets that your company owns.  Is it a dated photograph of a fashion trend long gone?  Is it a video that offers a look into something that is no longer valid? Is it an old logo that no longer matches the brand guideline document?
  2. Start to think about your organizations physical, organizational and core offerings in terms of a category and sub-category structure. This will be the foundation of a new controlled vocabulary for your system
  3. Know who your core team of people will be who can access the database once the DAM is in place
  4. Be knowledgeable as to your legal obligations for your organization.  This way no surprises will come up after the system is in place
